Walt Disney World® Resort (Florida)
Disney's BoardWalk Resort WDW

Discover how to create a work culture where desired behaviors are consistently demonstrated

There are four interconnected components that define an organization’s culture: employee selection, training, communication, and care. Each is crucial to creating and nurturing a culture that fosters employee engagement. With a rich tradition and heritage built upon creating memorable experiences, The Walt Disney Company has consistently worked to attract, develop, and retain employees dedicated to this vision.

To ensure employees consistently deliver exceptional experiences, an organization must intentionally design processes that reinforce their desired culture. Sharing insights of how employee selection, training, and engagement are enhanced through high-quality communication and genuine care is one of the ways that Disney Institute can help your organization reimagine sustainable results.

Fostering Organizational Culture

Disney has a foundation created with vibrant traditions, quality standards, and shared values. At each and every Disney Destination around the world, these are the pillars upon which our culture is built. By design, through our attention to detail, we cultivate traits and behaviors, language, symbols, and processes that distinguish Disney in the marketplace. By protecting and nurturing our culture, we remain committed to achieve new business goals. In this course, you will discover the link between your culture and desired behaviors, and how it impacts organizational results.

Selecting Right-Fit Talent

Attitude outweighs aptitude. At Disney, we ensure our organization’s culture thrives by considering a potential employee's attitude and not simply hiring a candidate based on skills alone. Ensuring we match the right person to the right role, our internal employment operation called Disney Casting, must answer the needs of both our customers and employees. You will learn new ways to think about your selection process to find "right-fit" people and recognize opportunities to improve workplace culture even when a candidate may seem to not be a "right-fit."

Training the Culture

Disney training is a comprehensive strategy designed to develop skills, while promoting and reinforcing our Company's culture through values, history, and processes. Our training instills confidence in our Cast Members, reinforces our culture, brings organizational goals to life, and increases productivity and efficiency by sustaining employee engagement. You will experience what our training journey looks and feels like, and then learn how it can be achieved within your organization.

Communicating to Inform and Inspire

Intentional communication and genuine listening show that you care about your employees. At Disney, we carefully craft our messages so Cast Members hear and understand that their actions enhance our shared values and the Disney legacy for present and future Cast Members. By understanding where we've been, Cast Members become connected with the leadership vision that guides us into the future. You will learn how to create high-quality communication that can engage your employees and influence an organization’s culture from your newest hires to employees with the longest tenure.

Creating an Environment of Care

Gratitude improves attitude! That is one reason we express sincere appreciation, empathy, and support to every Cast Member. We recognize accomplishments, involve Cast Members in developing customer service strategies, and create a workplace culture that encourages all Cast Members to take opportunities that promote the best use of their talents and skills. It is a mutually beneficial practice — better working relationships result in employees understanding their value to the company and what each person brings to the goal of delivering exceptional customer experiences. You will learn about the deep level of genuine care and meaningful recognition necessary to positively impact employees, your organization, your customers, and ultimately your business results.
