#DThink Twitter Chat Recap: Optional or Operational, How Important is Employee Training?

In our Disney Institute professional development training courses, we teach individuals and businesses from around the world a fundamental lesson: Training is more critical to desired BEHAVIORS and outcomes than many companies have ever imagined. Why? Because when people don’t know how to do their jobs, they can get frustrated and begin to improvise, which can have serious ensuing consequences on the customer experience, and ultimately the bottom line.

While some companies and organizations might think of training as just something that has to be done to impart the necessary skills to do a job, others are realizing that training actually does so much more than that. Great training also reinforces the values and behaviors that determine organizational culture, and should be viewed as a critical component of an organization’s employee engagement strategy.

During our most recent #DThink Twitter Chat, we had excellent dialogue with our Twitter community about this topic. Questions and answers were based on the curriculum from Disney’s Approach to Employee Engagement, our professional development training course that explores Disney best practices in creating and nurturing a culture of employee engagement by strategically focusing on four distinct areas: employee selection, training, communication and care.
