#DThink Twitter Chat Recap: Creating Your Leadership Legacy

What is a leadership legacy, and why is it important to start creating yours long before leaving a job or company?

These are key questions that all leaders should consider now—not just in the last few weeks or days in their current position. Why? Because it’s never too early to start proactively thinking about the impact we have on employees, co-workers, clients or customers today, and whether or not that impact will continue in a positive manner long after we have left.

At Disney Institute, we believe that every leader leaves a legacy, which is the aggregate of the story he or she has told over time. In fact, its one of the main topics that we cover in our Disney’s Approach to Leadership Excellence training course because we believe that deliberately creating and communicating a leadership legacy is a critical skill that should be a focus for all leaders.

So, consider what you will want to be remembered for? For example, if you want to be remembered for how you treated people fairly and respectfully, it’s a great leadership practice to start considering this now so that your current and future behaviors reflect these aspirations.
