We Asked, You Responded: How Can Leaders Be Better Listeners?

April 09, 2015 by Bruce Jones, Senior Programming Director, Disney Institute

Last month, we shared three rules of intentional listening as crucial steps in demonstrating great leadership. Intentional listening is an essential leadership tool that builds relationships, earns employee trust, and sends a clear signal of genuine care for people. And, because people feel a tremendous sense of value and worth when it is clear that leadership is truly listening to them, the impact of intentional listening on employee engagement can be powerful.

At Disney Institute, we teach participants in our Disney’s Approach to Leadership Excellence professional development course that when it comes to great leadership, both intentions and behaviors matter. So, we recently asked our Twitter followers for some other suggestions on how leaders can be better listeners.

While we couldn’t share them all, we received many engaging, thoughtful and inspiring responses. Here are few of the highlights:

A big thanks to all of our followers who responded and shared their excellent insights! Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and/or LinkedIn for our next "We Asked, You Responded" question opportunity, and you just might see your response featured here in a future Talking Point blog post.
