D’Think Chat Recap: A Leader’s Role in Fostering Culture

May 13, 2014 by Bruce Jones, Programming Director, Disney Institute

Last week we hosted our monthly D’Think Twitter Chat, where we discussed the topic of culture with Disney Institute facilitator, Jack Santiago. We had an excellent dialogue with our Twitter community who shared insights based on their own experiences of creating and fostering culture.

We opened our discussion with the question of what role a leader plays in creating and sustaining an organization’s culture. Our community provided interesting and compelling thoughts to support the idea that every leader, through their actions, is telling a story about how s/he values the organization’s culture.

Here are highlights from the chat, along with a few of the questions and responses:

At Disney Institute, we encourage leaders to focus on creating a culture of commitment versus compliance. It’s about engaging the heartand creating an environment of genuine care. To learn more, take a look at how leaders must intentionally create and nurture a culture of excellence.

So tell us: How do you help create and sustain your organization’s culture?

We want to hear your perspective! Join us for our next D’Think Twitter Chat on Wednesday,
June 4 at 12 p.m. (Noon) E.T., when we will focus on Disney’s Approach to Quality Service.
